State Government (Legislative branch)

Our state government is called the Virginia General Assembly. Similar to the Federal government, this legislature has 2 houses:

  • The Senate of Virginia. This is the upper house. It has 40 members ("senators"), each representing one of 40 constituent districts. The Senate is presided over by the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. Elections are held every four years. There are no term limits. Next election‎: ‎November 5, 2019; (40 seats).
  • The Virginia House of Delegates. This is the lower house. It has 100 members ("delegates"), elected for terms of two years; elections take place during odd-numbered years. The House is presided over by the Speaker of the House, who is elected from among the House membership by the Delegates.

Virginia House of Delegates. Brookfield is in the 67th District in the House of Delegates. Our state delegate is:
